Refined Sugar Regime

__Cabinet has mandated the Trade Board in association with Jamaica Customs to implement a __new regime for imported refined sugar. This became effective January 1, 2004.
As of this date all manufacturers using imported refined sugar as input into production and traders importing on behalf of manufacturers will be required to register with the Trade Board. This will enable these manufacturers and traders to continue to receive Additional Stamp Duty waiver on imports of refined sugar.

The new regime will involve a registration process, which includes the following:

Application for import quantities
Pre-entry verification of the manufacturing process

This mechanism will be used to determine bona fide manufacturers and traders and their eligibility to receive a waiver of duties. These manufacturers and traders will be required to undergo a post-audit to ensure compliance with the regulations. Trade Board and Jamaica Customs will conduct these post-audits.
