Requirements for the Importation of Motorcycles

Individuals and companies are allowed to apply for motor vehicle import permits, among other licensable commodities that fall within the remit of the Jamaica Trade Board Limited.
A motor vehicle according to the Motor Vehicle Import Policy, Ministry Paper 36/14, and The Road Traffic Act may be classified as any of the following:

  • Motor Cars
  • Trucks
  • Trailers
  • Tractors
  • Motorcycles

Eligibility

  • Individuals may import a combination of two (2) motor vehicles every three (3) years. An individual may be classified as one of the following:
  • Jamaican Resident
  • Child of Jamaican Parentage
  • Spouse of a Jamaican
  • Returning Resident
  • Contract Officer
  • Holder of a Work Permit
  • Diplomats
  • Expatriates

2. Businesses importing motor vehicles fall into two categories namely:

  • Non-Dealer Companies, which are allowed up to three (3) Motor Vehicles every three (3) years.
  • Certified Motor Vehicle Dealers allowed any category and quantity for resale.

Allowable Age Limit
The maximum allowable age limit for the importation of a motorcycle is 5 years.

Documentary Requirements for the Importation of Motorcycles:

  • Log Book/Title/Export Certificate/Singapore De-registration Certificate
  • Bill of Sale/Invoice
  • For individuals, proof of identification is required (National Identification / Valid Driver’s License / Passport)
  • Approval from the Ministry of National Security (for Motorcycles not exceeding 700cc)

Import Permit Application Procedures

  • Applicants are required to apply online for their import permits via the Jamaica Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT) website, https://www.jswift.gov.jm (To access the JSWIFT platform prior registration is required.
  • Once issued with username and password, applicants can proceed to apply for the import permit, by uploading the required documentations and make the request payment via the JSWIFT portal.
  • Applicants are issued with a permit application number.
  • Applicants are notified via email on the status of their application or they can visit the portal to check the status.

Import Permit Fee

  • Import Permit Fee - J$6,325.00
