NON-COMPLIANCE WITH PRE-SHIPMENT INSPECTION (PSI) REQUIREMENTS WILL ATTRACT VERIFICATION FEES

The Jamaica Trade Board Limited (JTBL) reminds all importers of used vehicles that Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) is mandatory for vehicles shipped from the following designated countries, in accordance to Section 17.0 “Dealer Disclosure (Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate)” of the Motor Vehicle Import Policy (Ministry Paper #36/14):

  • Japan
  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Canada
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Thailand
  • Singapore
  • China

Effective June 1, 2026, any used vehicle imported into Jamaica from a PSI-required country without the required inspection certificate will be subject to a verification process to determine the vehicle's history. This verification will attract a fee of USD 500.00, payable to Auto Terminal Japan (ATJ).

The verification process is intended solely to:

  • Confirm whether the vehicle is listed as stolen; and
  • Validate the true ownership of the vehicle.

Important Notes:

  • The verification fee applies only in cases of non-compliance with PSI requirements.
  • It does not apply under any other circumstances.

Failure to comply with PSI requirements constitutes a serious breach of the Motor Vehicle Import Policy. Importers are strongly urged to ensure full compliance in order to avoid delays, additional costs, and possible sanctions.

JTBL appreciates the continued cooperation of all stakeholders and remains committed to facilitating trade in the public interest.
